Explore Cao Bang in One Day with an Easy Rider
Enjoy winding mountain roads, traditional villages, and spectacular waterfalls without having to ride a motorbike yourself. With an Easy Rider, you travel as a passenger with a local rider, giving you time to admire the scenery and experience everyday life in Cao Bang.
It’s a great option if you don’t have a motorcycle licence, aren’t confident riding on mountain roads, or simply prefer to relax and enjoy the journey.
Suggested One-Day Itinerary
Departure: Around 08:00 from Cao Bang City.
Return: Around 18:00, depending on the weather, road conditions, and rest stops.
Stop 1 – Ma Phuc Pass: A Beautiful Mountain Gateway

One of the first highlights of the journey is Ma Phuc Pass.
This scenic mountain pass winds through impressive limestone formations and lush valleys, offering a wonderful introduction to Cao Bang’s landscape.
Being a passenger means you can focus on the beauty around you while your local rider navigates the mountain road.
If a suitable, safe stopping point is available, take a moment to enjoy the view and capture a few photographs.
Local tip: Mountain roads can have sharp bends and changing visibility. Enjoy the views while riding, but only take photographs when the motorbike is safely parked.
Stop 2 – Phuc Sen Village: Discover Traditional Local Craftsmanship
Continue to Phuc Sen, a traditional village home to the Nung An community.

Phuc Sen is known for its traditional blacksmithing, a craft passed down through generations.
Here, local artisans continue to make knives and agricultural tools using skills that reflect the region’s cultural heritage.
Traveling with a local rider may also create opportunities to learn about everyday village life and discover the quieter side of Cao Bang.
Local tip: Take time to observe the craftsmanship and interact respectfully with local people. Sometimes a simple conversation becomes the most meaningful part of a journey.
Stop 3 – Ban Gioc Waterfall: Cao Bang’s Natural Wonder

The journey continues through beautiful valleys, mountain roads, and peaceful countryside toward Ban Gioc Waterfall.
Located along the Vietnam–China border, Ban Gioc is one of the region’s most spectacular natural attractions.
Depending on the season, you’ll discover different landscapes, from powerful waterfalls during periods of heavy rainfall to gentler water flows in drier months.
Take your time enjoying the scenery, walking around the designated viewing areas, and capturing photographs.
But remember, reaching the waterfall is only part of the experience. The ride through Cao Bang’s countryside can be just as unforgettable.
Local tip: Weather, rainfall, and water levels affect the waterfall’s appearance. Every season has something different to offer.
Lunch Break – Taste the Flavors of Cao Bang
After visiting Ban Gioc, enjoy a well-deserved break at a local restaurant.
Cao Bang’s food reflects its mountain culture, with regional ingredients and traditional dishes that are difficult to find elsewhere.
Depending on availability, you might enjoy specialties such as bamboo shoots, mountain vegetables, rice noodles, and regional meat dishes.
It’s also a good opportunity to rest, stretch your legs, and recharge before the afternoon ride.
Local tip: Don’t rush your meal. Enjoying local food and conversations is an important part of discovering a new place.
Stop 4 – Nguom Ngao Cave: Discover the Underground World

Just a short ride from Ban Gioc Waterfall, Nguom Ngao Cave offers another fascinating natural experience.
Inside, you’ll discover beautiful stalactites and stalagmites formed by geological processes over thousands of years.
The mysterious limestone formations and underground chambers create a wonderful contrast with the open mountain landscapes outside.
Local tip: Wear comfortable walking shoes with good grip. Some paths and steps inside the cave can be damp or slippery.
Optional Stop – Angel Eye Mountain: A Peaceful Hidden Valley

If you still have enough time and energy, and road conditions allow, you may consider visiting Angel Eye Mountain, also known as Nui Thung.
Famous for the enormous natural opening through its limestone peak, this area is surrounded by grasslands, seasonal lakes, and peaceful countryside.
It’s a beautiful place to enjoy nature, take photographs, and experience a quieter side of Cao Bang.
However, this is an optional stop because the full route is already quite long for a one-day motorbike journey.
Local tip: Don’t worry if you can’t visit every destination. Sometimes spending more time in fewer places makes the journey even better.
Late Afternoon – Return to Cao Bang City
After a memorable day in the mountains, return to Cao Bang City.
The exact return time depends on weather, road conditions, rest breaks, and how long you spend at each destination.
If you’re taking an overnight bus to Hanoi, make sure to share your departure time in advance.
Our personal advice: Cao Bang is a place to experience, not a checklist to complete. Enjoy the road, the people, the landscapes, and the unexpected moments along the way.
Is an Easy Rider Right for You?
This option suits solo travelers, couples, and groups of friends who enjoy nature and local experiences.
You don’t need a motorcycle licence to travel as a passenger. However, the journey involves several hours on a motorbike, with possible exposure to sun, wind, or rain.
If you prefer greater comfort, protection from the weather, or are traveling with family, a private car with a driver is an option worth considering.
What Should You Bring?
Wear long trousers and closed-toe shoes, and bring a light jacket. Pack a raincoat, sunscreen, drinking water, some cash, and a small backpack.
Always wear a properly fitted helmet with the chin strap securely fastened. Follow your rider’s instructions and ask for a rest stop whenever you need one.
